I used Terra Forma cards to come up with the prompt, "How can I use windows to express loneliness with graphite". I enjoy drawing eyes so when I got this prompt dealing with windows, I instantly thought about the quote "The eyes are the windows to the soul". I chose to use five point perspective to draw the reflection of the window in the eye to give it a more realistic feel. I included a soft hand reaching out in the reflection to exaggerate the feeling of looking from the inside out, longing to be included and happy.

Artist statement
I was given the challenge of "Kill The Pen" for this project and the overall theme was horror/nightmares. I decided to use the nightmare theme to show the feeling of sleep paralysis. I had the girl sleeping with a demon sitting on her strangling her. When experiencing sleep paralysis you often get hallucinations and you cannot scream or move, so it feels like you're being held down. When you are being strangled you can't scream, which is why I chose to make the demon strangling her.

This piece of work came from the assignment "villains/heroes remix" where we were to design a comic cover for a villain or hero we created. My character is an alien that came to earth in the disguise of a hippie. Her power is she can make portals and hypnotize others with her galactic powers. I chose this character because I'm not very familiar or into comics, so I took two things I'm familiar with and made it into one. I have more of a hippie style and I like bohemian vibe, so that's why she's a hippie and I've always loved galaxies and space so that's where the galaxy came from.
Artist statement
My two historical art references I chose was Claude Lorrain and Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione. Claude Lorrain was a French painter in the 1630s and was known for his watercolor landscapes. I used Lorrain's painting "View of Tivoli" for inspiration in my background. He uses a washing watercolor style and I used that technique in my sky. The second artist I used was Mario Robinson for my overall inspiration to do a watercolor portrait. I used Robinson's "beauty marks" as my inspiration because of his control of the medium and his eye for shadows. The concept behind my portrait was to show women's ability to be independent. I was trying to find a reference photo to paint, and when I saw this one, the powerful smirk and the tip of the glasses spoke to me.
